When I was three years old I had Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease in my left hip. My left hip was rebuilt when I was five. After two years of sporadic pain and difficulties walking my left hip failed on October 14th 2006. This is my blog of the journey I am going through to re-gain my health and again establish a normal, stable and healthy adult life.

You may subscribe to my blogs RSS Feed RSS Feed. If you had Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease as a child or your child now has this disease you may benefit from the support group I co-moderate.

RE: I have had urgent surgery ...

Wednesday October 10th, 2007

My energy is slowly coming back. It has been really hard.

I am not sure if I said in the last e-mail or not ... there is a nurse who
rents from my friends in Ottawa. I am staying with them until I am strong
enough to return to my home. I was able to get out of the hospital after 3
nights. Otherwise I would have been in for nearly 2 weeks. With the doctors
repairing my hip instead of replacing it the surgery was much more intense on
my body. I am still fairly week.

The surgeon who operated knows how to resurface a hip. I had signed if he
felt this necessary to do, but my ball is still round. He did what he thinks
will bring it healing. I have started to get my motion back. I am getting
around on crutches, but spending most of the day in bed.

I should be able to start walking around Christmas.
