When I was three years old I had Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease in my left hip. My left hip was rebuilt when I was five. After two years of sporadic pain and difficulties walking my left hip failed on October 14th 2006. This is my blog of the journey I am going through to re-gain my health and again establish a normal, stable and healthy adult life.

You may subscribe to my blogs RSS Feed RSS Feed. If you had Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease as a child or your child now has this disease you may benefit from the support group I co-moderate.

I took my first step!

Thursday October 25th, 2007

Everyday for about a week now I have gone out mid afternoon and walked about 200 meters (approx. 600 feet). I noticed on Tuesday and Wednesday when I was out walking I wasn't feeling the strain on my hip I had been feeling last week. I have also started noticing that when I have been walking to Laurie-Ann and Tony's TV room I have been more using my crutches to keep my balance than using them to support my weight.

Last night I took my first step with my left leg without crutches. It was nice. My hip works. Then I thought that was enough for now and I would try again next week. hehehehe

I just got back from my afternoon walk today. I increased it to 300 meters. I want to make sure I am using my hip some. In behind Tony and Laurie-Ann's home is a path. I walked down the street to where you turn onto the path and then walked on the path back to their home. It is really nice outside. I am not walking too quickly so I noticed a lot of things. There were lots of squirl's out. I enjoyed the leaves.

I think I will be ready next week to get back to my home. I haven't seen my cat for about 7 weeks now. It will be really good to see him again.
