When I was three years old I had Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease in my left hip. My left hip was rebuilt when I was five. After two years of sporadic pain and difficulties walking my left hip failed on October 14th 2006. This is my blog of the journey I am going through to re-gain my health and again establish a normal, stable and healthy adult life.

My appointment with the surgeon

Sunday July 29th, 2007

I didn't go onto the Internet much this past week. A lot of things are going on right now in my life apart from my hip.

I wanted to share about the surgeon's appointment.

They did more x-rays in Ottawa. The underlying issue was actually found on the x-rays. The surgeon asked for different angles of my hip to be taken. What is actually happening is that part of the hip ball from my legg perthes disease operation is catching the cartilage preventing it from healing. The surgeon is going to build the upper right hand quarter of my hip to structurally look like a normal hip and at the same time repair the cartilage. I am looking at having surgery in approximately January - March 2008.

I bought an automatic car. Over the past year I have struggled with shifting gears. Hearing this diagnosis was enough to justify the expense involved.

I am now sleeping on the main floor of my home as well. The stairs are very hard to use.

I am on crutches now until I heal.
