My Knee Replacement Surgery Incision Is Tearing Itself Open
[ Sunday July 23rd 2023 at 9:24 pm ]

For today I decided to attend the evening time slot for the warm water therapy pool. While I was changing into my bathing suit I saw an area of my incision ( 1mm or 3/64" ) that didn't look quite right. It looked like the top layer of skin had come off. There are several stages an incision goes through while healing. Just as a precautionary measure I put a waterproof bandage on it.

After the swim I got dressed again and made my way to the bus stop. When I arrivrd at the bus stop I realized I hadn't removed the bandage. I removed it. There was some fluid drainage absorbed into the bandage. Initially I was going to look closely once home.

Now 20 minutes later I looked down. I've made a really bad discovery. My knee replacement surgery incision has begun tearing itself open. I just took a photo of it and sent it to my surgeons office. When I get home I will put a type of stitches on it to stabilize it.

I wasn't medically cleared to use the warm water therapy pool until July 2nd 2026. Now I am going to have to go without using the pool for until this has closed and then 3 additional days. The exercises to recover from my knee replacement surgery are much easier to do using the warm water therapy pool. But I can't possibly risk the artificial knee getting an infection.
