Annual Dental Cleaning

I typically get my teeth cleaned every 3 to 4 months. We delayed this to 6 months on account of my left artificial hip being replaced. When joint replacement surgery happens there is medical evidence that shows blood flow is increased to the joint for the following 2 years. The reasoning to wait 6 months is to limit the risk of an infection and having to repeat the surgery. There is also an antibiotic medication I need to use during this 2 year window to protect my new artificial hip from infection. Once the 2 year anniversary is reached the risk of infected joint following dental health care is the same as individuals with their original joints.

When artificial joint replacement surgery became a thing people were directed to use an antibiotic medication with their dental cleaning for the rest of their life. People started asking questions. The reason is because some bacteria is released when a person brushes and flosses their teeth. Eventually a study was conducted. It provided there wasn't a medical need for antibacterial medical with dental cleaning for the rest of a person with an artificial joints life.

I also learned something new a few months ago related to dental health care. If you don't take care of your teeth the chance of dementia and having a stroke is greatly increased. I find this type of thing very fascinating. For a long time I've had the opinion that we are all joined together on the inside of our bodies. It doesn't surprise me that this connection has been made.
