Purchased A Wrist Blood Pressure Cuff
[ Thursday May 21st 2026 at 7:27 pm ]

I have the "white coat syndrome". My blood pressure readings are typically high until I've been at the doctor or hospital for a few hours. The reason why is pretty simple. It isn't anxiety. I go to my medical appointments to face my orthopaedic issues head on. For better or worse I grasp the serious nature of them. The concern I have puts my blood pressure up.

There is a second component to my "white coat syndrome". I have been through so much pain over the past 20 years that I fight back against the blood pressure cuff when it is taking my blood pressure. When you flex your muscles it creates extraneous readings.

The nurse at my family doctor office gave me a suggestion. She wonders if a wrist blood pressure cuff would be easier on me. Certainly the pros outweigh the cons to try. I have ordered one. It is coming from India. If this works I will bring it with me to my medical appointments and take my own blood pressure while I am in the waiting room.

Then it is just a matter of prioritizing sleep and pain control so my blood pressure readings are reasonable. My blood pressure readings were good while I was in the hospital for my right artificial hip revision surgery in November 2025. I am not particularly concerned. But I do need to monitor this.

If I need blood pressure medicine because my numbers are high so be it. I am trying to do what I have control over for about 6 weeks. Then we will see where things stand once this is delivered.
