Quote Submitted For Maintenance To My Power Wheelchair
[ Tuesday June 23rd 2026 at 3:41 pm ]

I have just received confirmation that the quote has been submitted to my disability case worker for the maintenance my power wheelchair requires. The carbon motor brushes are "the straw that broke the camels back". The quote includes replacing these. If the labour and money is spent for another set of motor brushes then the intention is to overhaul everything that needs to be replaced as part of regular maintenance. This will make my power wheelchair provide another 4 years of service.

Even though my power wheelchair model is discontinued the parts for maintenance are generic. The metal frame is proprietary. But the wheels, batteries, bearings and I believe motor brushes aren't proprietary to my model wheelchair. This allows for the continued maintenance and operation of the power wheelchair.

Typically what kills off a power wheelchair is when something goes wrong with the metal frame. If the metal frame is bent or metal parts that adjust for the varying height of the ground seize then a new power wheelchair is needed. There is no way of avoiding this. The model of power wheelchair I am using is designed for use outside. It is very robust. It has been serving me very well. When I am able to do so I love taking it down to the waterfront trails and spend time down there taking photos of nature.
