Got My Hair Cut And Washed
[ Tuesday March 10th 2026 at 6:11 pm ]

I haven't been able to wash my hair since my right artificial hip was replaced on November 26th 2025. The past 3 months has been really physically punishing.

Initially I was willing to let go of washing my hair for a few weeks on account of having surgery. It really doesn't matter. I figure the worst that happens is my hair looks like it is the 1980's all over again and some dandruff forms. But it got complicated fast.

My April 2nd 2025 seroma came back to life mid December 2025. The fluid started draining from under the incision when my left artificial hip was replaced. About 10 days later I developed a seroma under my November 26th 2025 incision and it started draining. This is a complication from all the scar tissue left behind from my previous hip surgeries. This has nothing to do with my current surgeon. The concern with washing my hair is that I didn't want to risk having water containing bacteria enter my body through the 2 openings from either 2025 surgery incision where the fluid was periodically draining from.

Then things became more complicated. By the time the November 26th 2025 surgery formed a seroma my knees were popping again followed by very severe pain and not making a recovery. I could no longer sit with my legs at 90 degrees. When I tried the pain was horrific. I wasn't able to do anything for the following 3 days because of how physically punishing this was. But I had tried. At the end of those 3 days it was just pain. I have been in pain for years. I am use to "rolling with the puches" that this put me through. It absolutely knocked the snot out of me.

What was left would be to wash my hair while using the tub. I have done this before. This is my normal way of washing hair. I don't worry about washing my hair several times a week. We don't have to go too far into history when where in home plumbing became a thing and modern shampoo marketing compelled people to wash their hair more frequently than previously in history. The challenge in using the tub is that I can't do so with 2 open incisions. I would be back to having bacteria laden water entering my incision and risking my new artificial hips. As I just said above I really didn't want to go through this again.

What this all leaves for my hair is what I did 5 days before my November 26th 2025 surgery. At that time I went to the local First Choice Haircutters. I said to the female cutting my hair that I'd be happy to pay for them to trim my beard and wash my hair as well. She was gracious with me. She wasn't talking down to me. She understood when I explained my artificial hip needed to be replaced. As I was leaving the woman who cut and washed my hair said to me to use the kitchen sink to wash my hair while I heal from surgery. Otherwise if this was too troublesome they would be willing to do it for me again. She was respectful of me. I decided to return today. I am really glad I did.

I don't like my hair being long. It needed to be cut. There was 4 months of growth. I paid for them to wash it again. The pharmacy I use is near their facility. Before doing this I had to go into the pharmacy to get the medication to treat my microscopy colitis. I figured it was as good of time as any to have my hair cut and washed. For this time I asked if they would just buzz it short for me. It will take time for it is to grow out again. When I have seen my surgeon again I will have a better sense of how we will address my seromas and the timing of this. For right now I wanted to make myself look nice again.
